This faculty has Five departments which are:


This Department is concerned with the study of management processes in the production and using of Agricultural product. The department of Agronomy as a key component contributes immensely in the teaching and research activities of the faculty. It has continued to work assiduously towards achieving its major responsibilities of teaching and research and involvement of students in practicals, tours and execution for various courses offered in B.Agric, M.Sc and Ph.D Agronomy as well as PGD in horticulture and Irrigation Agronomy Programmes.

Soil science

This department focus on the study of soil and environment. The department was created in Febuary 2009 and has been involved in the Use of Agro-ecosystem Modelling in sustainable Management of land resources,Soil and water Conservation and Environmental Quality. The department is also involved in both undergraduate and post graduate training to compete favourably at nation and international arena.

The focus of the department is to provide high quality training to students in the various fields of Soil and environmental Sciences and to prepare them to proffer solutions to emerging agricultural, soil and environmental challenges of the 21st Century.

Animal Science

The Department of Animal science came into existence with the establishment of faculty of Agriculture of the Bayero Univesity in August 2001. The first set of 109 students were admitted into 100 level of the new Bachelor of Agriculture programme with 23 students opting for Animal science.At inception the department was overseen by then Ag, Dean of the faculty(Dr A.A Manga) between 2002 to 2004. After then Prof I.R Muhammed took over and his tenure lasted up 2010. the Department in now Headed by Prof B.F Muhammed till date. over the years, the department has witnessed a lot of metamorphosis to extent that it currently runs PGD, M.Sc and Ph.D courses in various field of Animal Science.

Agricultural Economics and Extension

The department of Agricultural Economics and extension is among the three Pioneer department when the faculty of Agriculture was established consequent of upon the approval granted by the national universities commission(NUC) in August ,2001. Presently the department is hosting two programmes namely Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Extension. Therefore the department teaches courses and carrries out research work in these fields especially as it relates to sustainable and profitable Agriculture in the Sudano-Sahelian ecological region where the university is located.
